Import Compiled Yard File
Import Compiled Yard File form
N4 automatically converts your existing production yard file during an upgrade and under most circumstances, upgrading users should not need to import a compiled yard (yard.nyd) file. At your preference, however, when setting up block, rail, vertex, and path information you can import a yard.nyd file to re-use existing information from a previous version of N4.
Before you begin:
Be aware that:
If you want to import a compiled yard file, you should start with a new yard model instead of a cloned yard model. Importing a compiled yard file involves a check for any existing compiled yard, and during that check, existing compiled yard files will be deleted.
The more yard models you have, the more time it will take to import a new yard file into N4. To reduce the import time, we recommend that you have only five different yard models.
When you import a compiled yard file, N4 automatically creates the bin name tables defined in the yard file, but does not, necessarily, create the geodetic geometry information. Imported blocks get geometry, but yard section and yard stacks do not. You can verify bin name table information on the Bin Name Tables tab (on page 1) in the Yard Model form (on page 1).
If you import both a yard.nyd file and a berths.txt file to set up a berth, the same berth vertices must be defined in both files.
N4 does not support yard files that include a #BNAMES 3 section (also known as super blocks). If you try to import a yard file that includes this section, N4 displays an error message and does not process the yard file. In this case, to proceed, you must first fix the respective blocks, which should be listed in the error message. Do not make the yard model active without fixing the #BNAMES 3 section first.
To import a compiled yard file:
In Yard Editor, select Actions Import Compiled Yard File.
N4 validates if the yard model has any descendants.
If the message "Compiled yard already exists. Are you sure you want to replace the existing compiled yard?" displays, click Yes.
Any descendants will be deleted. This deletion enables N4 to start with a clean yard model upon import and thus avoid any potential problems. This operation may take a few minutes, and N4 displays a progress bar during the operation.
In the Import Compiled Yard File form, click Browse.
In the File Upload form, locate the yard.nyd file that you want to upload
Click Open.
The Compiled Yard File form displays the upload progress.
Error reporting occurs at a more granular level when you import a compiled yard file, than when you Apply Yard Model Changes (on page 1). Therefore, the error messages that you receive as a result of both actions may differ.
When prompted to reset the geometries for the imported yard model, click Yes. Resetting the geometries ensures that N4 disregards the geometric information included in the yard.nyd file in favor of the map coordinates.
The form closes and the existing yard elements appear on top of the yard image. Yard Editor now displays tools for adding and editing yard elements.
Next step(s):
Create a new or place an existing (on page 1):
Stack block (on page 1) or non-stack block
